Phu Quoc named in Top 3 best winter trips

The heart-shaped Phu Quoc Island of Viet Nam ranked third in the list of best winter trips 2014, according to the U.S.-based National Geographic Traveler magazine.

Phu Quoc, deep sand beaches; fish sauce

Travel in Vietnam. The periodical noted that there’s no reason to hibernate this winter when there are new beaches, slopes, sports, and festivals to discover. This year’s list of best winter trips is a global collection of 15 editor-recommended destinations.

Some of Viet Nam’s best beaches are on Phu Quoc Island, making them closer to Cambodia than the Vietnamese mainland (Vietnam tour)
Phu Quoc once housed the so-called “coconut tree prison” (now a museum), where Vietcong prisoners of war were held through 1973. What’s bringing international travelers and, so far, restrained development to Phu Quoc today are its warm, turquoise waters; secluded, deep sand beaches; and lush, mountainous interior (protected as a national park).

Most resorts and Vietnam hotel are located south of Phu Quoc International Airport on Long Beach, and provide airport transfers to their guests. The most convenient way to travel around the island is by motorbike taxi or (with extreme caution) by motorbike.

The magazine also suggested tourists to visit the bustling Dinh Cau Night Market to try whatever local fishermen hauled in that day (sea urchin, prawns, clams, squid, scallops, sardines). Held most evenings near Cau Temple in Duong Dong, the market has dozens of stalls and is a good place to shop for souvenirs (although most items aren’t produced locally).
Phu Quoc is Viet Nam’s “nuoc mam” (fish sauce) capital. The island’s signature (and powerfully pungent) sweet-sour Phu Quoc sauce is the essential Vietnamese condiment and, in 2013, became the country’s first product granted the European Union Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. See more visit Vietnam tour.

Other ideal destinations include Paris (France); Lake Baikal, Siberia, (Russia); Santa Margherita Ligure (Italy); Nosara Beaches (Costa Rica); Winter Wolf Viewing, Lamar Valley Yellowstone National Park (the US); Gold Coast, Queensland (Australia); Winter Festivals in Miami, Miami Beach, and Coral Gables, Florida; Muscat-to-Salalah Coastal Route (Oman).

The Bay of Descending Dragons

Travel in Vietnam, come to Halong Bay. The first time I stepped onto Halong (Descending Dragons) Bay I was amazed by the limestone islets moored in the sea. They looked like a vision out of Pandora - an imaginative country in the movie Avatar. On my second visit to Halong Bay, I felt the same way, and also same again on this my third trip.

I stood on the deck of Emeraude gazing at the limestone islets with different shapes that we passed and left behind. From time to time, some wooden boats appeared out of nowhere and then disappeared into thin air before I had a chance to see the faces of the passengers. The sky wasn’t as blue as I expected but at least it was sunny and breezy. I noticed that many other guests also joined me on the deck, although they could view the fascinating landscape of the bay from their own cabin.

A person catches fishes on Halong Bay – Vietnam tour

During the two-day cruise on Emeraude, our activities were not only limited to the ship but we also had a chance to visit the Surprise Cave with beautiful and mysterious stalactites and stalagmites, and the educational pearl farm. While I was perched on the ship’s deck to indulge in the beauty and serenity of the bay, other guests were paddling into the sunset.

Sunrise in the bay was exceptionally beautiful when the sun itself slowly made its appearance from behind the limestone islets. I sat down in the lotus position to greet the first sunlight and let it touch me gently and kindly.

Tourists enjoy exploring surprise Cave

After a sedentary cruise on the bay, we decided to climb Mount Bai Tho (Mount Poem) not long after landing. The entrance to the trail of the mountain was shockingly funny. Phuong, our local friend, was walking past the street-front houses when she suddenly stopped and seemed to look for something. “Here it is,” she yelled, turning toward a tiny and dim alley between the two houses. “What?! Are you kidding? Is this the way to Mount Bai Tho?” We all looked at each other in puzzlement and then burst out laughing.

A tourist boat drifts on Halong Bay – (Vietnam tour)

After walking past some houses in the alley, we stopped at a closed gate. I thought we took the wrong turn but when one of us pushed the gate open, we found ourselves in someone’s front yard with a barking dog. We sneaked to the back of the house to find a narrow way leading up a staircase to the mountain. After about 45 minutes climbing steps covered with goat’s poo, we reached the 100-meter-high Bai Tho to witness a splendid 360 degree panoramic view of Halong Bay.

The sun was setting on the sea, painting a part of the waters with its shiny golden color. “I wish we could stay longer. Maybe I have to come back here some day to greet the sun rising up behind those limestone islets,” I told Phuong before we climbed down the mountain.

Ba Na mountains - A new destination place of Vietnam

Ba Na Mountain, 46 kilometers southwest of Da Nang, was once home to a resort area that French colonialists built in 1901 for high-ranking civil servants and military officials. And this is my first cruise Vietnam tour. Even though the remains of the former luxury resort are now just small paved paths, moss-covered walls, or ruins of fireplaces, they are still enough to lure tourists, especially those with an interest in history. That a new resort area with an array of luxury hotels, entertainment sites and shopping malls has been developed over the years at a height of 1,489 meters above the sea simply fuels the draw even more.

A view of Ba Na Mountain’s surroundings from the mountain’s top. Situated 46 kilometers southwest of the central city of Da Nang, Ba Na is home to a resort area and a primeval forest.

I too was attracted by Ba Na for the same reason, but after many visits there, I have found out more ways to discover and enjoy it. In fact, during my latest trip,I on a hike along a trail from the Morin Hotel, where I stayed, through the forest to visit some old villas and an orchid garden. The walk ended at the Ba Na By Night Vietnam hotel.

The trip covered 800-meter trek and took me just around one hour to finish, but it was full of feeling and discovery.

When we set out, it was just past midday and the sun still shone bright, but I did not feel the heat. It was because as soon as we entered the forest through a narrow path, we were covered by thick canopy of pine trees.
However, going under the shade of canopies, at some point, we were misled into believing that it was going to rain and turn dark soon, so we all walked in hurry. But, not long after that, when a thin canopy revealed some sunlight, we quickly returned to our leisurely speed, continuing enjoying what were surrounding us.

Although there was not much left, stone steps, a part of a playground, ruins of walls, and a fireplace that were all covered with mosses were enough to make a background for our photos.

We then left the villa, and continued trailing through the forest, spotting lots of hortensia flowers in full blossom on the way. Soon we arrived at an orchid garden where various kinds of the plant were grown. Ba Na By Night – a resort built with French architecture – was our last destination.

One of them is three-kilometer-long and ends at the Vang (gold) Valley, where tourists can visit old gold mining sites travel in Vietnam and learn about the life of gold miners that lived many decades ago, he said. The tour guide also said that the trail goes through many beautiful and “romantic” streams, waterfalls and flowers. All his promising descriptions enticed me to plan yet another visit to Ba Na in the near future.

Vietnam hotel faces oversupply of low-end hotel rooms

From Vietnam hotel – Vietnam Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has shown concern over an oversupply of hotel rooms of one and two-star standards, citing an excessive development of the segment in recent years. The country now has to about 3550 hotels, with 500 of them meeting one and two-star standards and the remainder in the three-to-five-star segment, according to the department.

The number of visitors travel in Vietnam has grown strongly over the years, and demand for hotels of three to five-star standards has picked up as well. Meanwhile, lower-end hotels, especially those of one and two-star standards, have seen low occupancy.

Tran Chi Cuong, deputy director of the department, said many small investors in recent years had been focusing on developing low-end hotels in the city. However, demand for guest rooms at these hotels has been sluggish.
“We should help investors understand the present situation to make good investment decisions,” Cuong told Vietnam hotel.

He said unlike the low-end hotels, the mid- and high-end facilities in the city still see growth prospects, buoyed by a steady rise of occupancy.
“Average occupancy at many high-end hotels ranges from 65% to 75% and even reaches 90% at some places. Investors still have room in the segment as the number of guests has kept surging year after year,” he said.
Local and foreign tourist arrivals in Danang have grown an average of 20% annually in recent years. This year the number is projected to amount to around 3.2 million, according to the department.

In 2013-2014 the number of new hotel rooms built a year in the city totaled 1,300, with average occupancy of all the hotels in the city reaching 51% last year.

An extra 1,700-2,000 new hotel rooms would be put into service in Danang this year. Deail at | Vietnam tour | Vietnam hotel | travel in Vietnam |

Come to Ba Mun Island - green pearl in Vietnam

If you have planning travel in Vietnam, come to Bai Tu Long. Located in Bai Tu Long Bay in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh, Ba Mun Island is one of the largest and most beautiful clusters of isles with the greatest abundance of flora in Bai Tu Long National Park.

It is also an extremely interesting destination for those who love adventure and nature from Vietnam tour

It takes only 45 minutes on a high-speed boat from Cai Rong wharf in Van Don district to Ba Mun Island. The first impression tourists have when arriving at the island is pristine natural landscape with green forests embraced entirely by blue sea.

The east of the island (known locally as the “exterior”) is pummeled by strong waves with water spray launching tens of metres high, while the west (the “interior”) features tranquil scenery and calm water that ripples against the side of boats.

Ba Mun covers an area of about 1,800 hectares with diverse flora and fauna including rare and valuable species. The most prominent plants are Tram Do (Syzygium zeylanicum), as well as Lim (Erythrophleum fordii), Sen (Madhuca pasquieri) and Tau (Vatica fleuryana Tardieu).

Ba Mun has several rare species of animals, including the golden deer, which is still quite populous and the only population in northeast Vietnam. Golden deer often search for food at night. Therefore, it is hard to spot them during the day but visitors can see their footprints.

There are a lot of other species of animals such as antelope, monkeys, langurs and more, as well as sea and migratory birds. With its diverse fauna, Ba Mun Island is the largest wild animal reserve in the southeast region. For this reason, locals often call it “ Animal Island”.

On Ba Mun Island, there are seven large streams with unique names such as O Lon To (big pigsty) and O Lon Con (small pigsty), as well as Mieu Danh, Van Lau, Cao Lo streams, and Che flume. The water runs all year round and is very clean thanks to large coverage of the forest. This is a valuable source of fresh water amidst the vast sea.

Travelling to Ba Mun, tourists can explore on their own, following some natural trails on the island or patrol routes serving forest management. It takes at least 3 days to complete a Vietnam tour of Ba Mun Island and 5 hours if going around the island by motorboat.  The island has a wildlife rescue centre belonging to the Bai Tu Long National Park. Tourists can contact the centre in case they need any support.
