Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar on the ninth floor of the Caravelle Hotel will be forever immortalized for its role in the Vietnam War as the location of the daily war correspondents briefing, and it was the professions’ watering hole of choice all through the decade long conflict. In those days – before the construction of the much taller Sheraton Hotel nearby – the view from the rooftop bar looked uninterruptedly across the Saigon River so the journalists had a clean view of the fighting as they relaxed with a few beers and shared war stories (Vietnam tour)
Chairs on the right hand side of the bar are mostly laid out in pairs with a small table, fairy lights and plenty of foliage to keep your experience private and romantic; to the left of the bar there are larger tables for bigger groups and good views of the stage. The cocktail menu at Saigon Saigon runs several pages and the menu has an excellent range of western favorites with some of the best steaks and burgers in town. All drinks are served with a sort of bento-box selection of nibbles that includes nuts, dried fruit chips and small crunchy shrimp.
